Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy is the most healing modality I have ever encountered and is fundamentally a part of the entire office visit. It is a way to listen to the whole person. Yes, the words that are written on an intake form and used to describe a person’s experience; but also your body’s stories. Can we bring to consciousness what your body is ‘saying’ about what it needs? How does that support healing?
A biodynamic craniosacral treatment is a hands-on therapy to support the body to heal. While doing cranial sacral therapy, I listen to the body, watch where the healing energy is moving in the body, mind and spirit, and allow this healing energy to direct the session. I know very little compared to the healing forces moving in the body. When these forces are allowed to work in the body, deep healing can result.
The way energy moves can be subtle or very forceful. Sometimes patients feel the energetic shifts immediately, and sometimes it takes the body a while to integrate the changes that have occurred. Healing for the body does not always appear in the way the mind wants it to. This means that after a treatment, a person may feel more tired or energetic than usual, crave strange foods, or be sore in new places. These are all normal responses and should be honored as much as possible. Sometimes, we do not know what happened, or how to articulate what happened, yet change is occurring.
This form of craniosacral therapy is an effective form of treatment for a wide range of illnesses, diseases and imbalances. The body directs the healing making it safe and effective for people of all ages including the elderly, adults, children and babies. It is very gentle, which allows to the body to relax and get into a parasympathetic state (a state where the body can rest, digest and heal). In this state, the body can make connections, process and reset itself. We can resolve pain or trauma (big or small) on a body level with the body’s wisdom.
In my practice, Craniosacral therapy is used with almost every patient. It is my way of listening, and working with the body to allow for healing to emerge. Craniosacral therapy is effective in treating unusual medical conditions or illnesses that have not responded to other forms of treatment.
I have had extensive training in Biodynamic Cranial Therapy with a variety of teachers including Robyn Michele Jones LMT, Cherionna Menzam-Sills, Todd Jackson, LMT, Mike Boxhall, Mary Seamster LMT and Anna Chitty. I was on the board of the Northwest Cranial Association for 12 years and attend craniosacral conferences regularly with European osteopathic doctors. I am a member the the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Association of North America (BCTA-NA) and have earned the RCST® designation. I have been a teaching assistant for a foundation course for the BCTA/NA with Robyn Michele Jones and plan on becoming a certified teacher.
I have also studied a variety of other hand-on modalities including Somatic Re-education (Ortho-Bionomy), Reiki, Biogenesis healing tools, and shiatsu massage. I find that these different techniques complement each other.
Craniosacral treatments are available as part of a Naturopathic consultation or can be scheduled as a treatment alone. Craniosacral treatments last 1 hour with 45 minutes of hands-on therapy and time to talk before and after the treatment.
I welcome questions about this healing modality.
